New ACUs – To Hit Stores July 1


The transition to new Army Combat Uniforms will begin next month. However, Soldiers should expect a lot of mixing and matching of camo items for the next few years. The transitional phase will take place over four years, designed to save the Army and Soldiers money. The new uniforms will have the Army’s new Operational Camouflage Pattern and eight design changes, which include a fold down collar design, as well as a reduction to two pen pockets on the sleeve. Veterans’ Employment Challenges


The USC Center for Innovation and Research on Veterans and Military Families recently conducted a qualitative study of Volunteers of America’s programs which exist to help veterans find and keep jobs. The report is based on a review of literature on the subject, along with interviewswith VOA service providers and veteran clients.  One employment challenge that was discovered is the lack of perparation veterans acquired in regards to the transition process. USA Wins Mini World Cup


The 7th Annual Mini World Cup took place in South Korea on May 24, 2015. The United States took home the win in the final against Nepal. Col. John White Receives The Honorable Order of St. Michael Silver Award


Air Cav leadership chaired the Army Aviation Association of America Phantom Corps Chapter quarterly meeting at Fort Hood, Texas, on March 24, 2015. During the meeting, Col. John White, commander of the 21st Cavalry Brigade, was inducted into The Honorable Order of St. Michael Silver Award, and Mr. Donald Mobley was thanked for his 14 years of service as the chapter’s secretary and inducted into The Tribale Order of the Athapaskan. North Star Chapter Meeting


The AAAA North Star Chapter had a meeting on May 20, 2015. Chapter member, Mr. Jim Johns, is working on restoring a BT-13 from the WWII era. His plan is to deliver it in July 2015 to the WASP museum in Sweetwater, TX. Ms. Betty Strohfus, seen in the picture, whose name is on the BT-13 is the only remaining Minnesotan WASP still alive. Nightstalker Awarded Soldier’s Medal


Brig. Gen. Erik Peterson, the commanding general of the United States Army Special Operations Aviation Command, awards the Soldier’s Medal to Staff Sgt. Jeremy Samuels. SSG Samuels is a medic with the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. He was awarded the Soldier’s Medal on May 20, 2015. Female Blackhawk Pilot Talks About Life in U.S. Army National Guard


1LT Alexis Scully is a part of the U.S. Army Oregon National Guard’s 7/158 Aviation Battalion. In the video at the link below she talks about how she is living her dream as a Blackhawk pilot. 1LT Scully is training at CMTC/CCEM Wainwright in Alberta Canada for Maple Resolve 2015 which is where her unit is supporting combined forces training doing aviation medical evacuation missions for both real world and training. Texas Army National Guard Rescues Teens


On May 11, 2015 the Texas Army National Guard was called to help rescue two teenagers who were stranded in a flash flood on top of a pick up truck. The first rescuers on the scene attempted to carry life vests to the teens, but the current was too strong and the rescue mission was deemed too dangerous to execute on foot. That’s when the Texas Army National Guard appeared with a Blackhawk. Rescuers dropped down and hoisted the teens to safety. UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopters at Joint Base Berry Field


The first UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopters, which belong to the Tennessee Army National Guard, landed on April 17, 2015 at Joint Base Berry Field in Nashville, Tenn. The helicopters are a part of the 1/230th Air Cavalry Squadron currently headquartered at the Army Aviation Support Facility in Smyrna, Tenn.
