In Kabul, Afghanistan, a suicide attacker rammed an explosives-laden motorcycle into a joint NATO-Afghan patrol on Monday, December 21, 2015, killing six American troops, in addition to wounding two U.S. troops and an Afghan citizen. The Soldiers were targeted as they moved through a village near Bagram Airfield, the largest U.S. millitary facility in Afghanistan. The Taliban claimed responsibility. Two pilots flying an AH-64D Apache from Fort Campbell were killed when the helicopter crashed during a training exercise on Wednesday, December 2, 2015. Fort Campbell Spokesman Maj. Allen Hill confirmed that the two-person helicopter of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade went down during “routine training” 12 miles south of Fort Campbell at around 7 p.m. There has been no determination of the cause of the accident and it is under investigation by the U.S. Army Combat Readiness Center.
