“Demon” Brigade Cases Colors Ahead of Afghanistan Deployment


Soldiers of the 1st CAB held a colors casing ceremony at Fort Riley’s historic Cavalry Parade Field on August 15, 2016. The “Demon” brigade is set to deploy to Afghanistan as part of a regular rotation of forces in support of Operation Resolute Support and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel, where they will conduct full-spectrum aviation operations promoting security and stability in the region. CAB Soldiers Qualify With the M9


Check out this video of Soldiers from Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 28th Combat Aviation Brigade, Pennsylvania Army National Guard participate in M9 pistol qualification at Fort Indiantown Gap, on August 21, 2016. Regardless of the weather conditions, 28th CAB Soldiers conduct this qualification regularly to ensure proficiency in fundamental soldier skills and to maintain combat readiness.

1-111th On Deck


The 1-111th Aviation Regiment teamed up with crew members of the USS Ponce to conduct deck landing qualifications on August 15, 2016. The National Guard Unit’s are currently deployed to Camp Beuhring, Kuwait, trained to land their CH-47 chinooks on a Navy vessel while underway. Deployment Ceremony for Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division


A ceremony took place on 15 August 2016, at Cavalry Parade Field, Fort Riley, KS, for the Combat Aviation Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Task Force Rotary Wing to cas their colors in preparation for deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Resolute Support and Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. The ceremony featured remarks by the Commanding General 1st Infantry Division, MG Wayne W. Grigsby, Jr., and Commander of the Combat Aviation Brigade COL John M. Cyrulik. Ceremony music was provided by the 1st Infantry Division Band under the command of CW2 Matthew David.  The video of the ceremony can be found here.

Rapid City Soldiers Welcomed Home from Afghanistan


Members of the South Dakota Army National Guard’s Detachment 48, Operational Support Airlift Command, were welcomed home at a ceremony that took place in the Army Aviation Support Facility in Rapid City, South Dakota, on January 23, 2016. Vermont National Guard Helicopter Pilot Retires


Chief Warrant Officer Four Keith Streeter, a UH-72 Lakota helicopter pilot with Detachment 2, Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 224th Aviation Battalion, Vermont National Guard, performed his last flight over Vermont on July 25, 2016. He took off from the Army Aviation Flight Facility in South Burlington, Vermont, and flew to Rutland using Visual Flight Rules, which means operating with visual reference to the ground and by visually avoiding obstructions and other aircraft. By flying using VFR, Streeter was given the opportunity to enjoy flying without assistance one last time before retiring. Upon his return, Streeter was greeted by cheering Soldiers...

40th CAB Practices Night Sling Load Movements in Kuwait


Soldiers from 526th Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) helped to guide pilots from the 40th Combat Aviation Brigade into place to sling load a shipping container to their Chinook helicopter on August 11, 2016 at Camp Buehring, Kuwait. Formation Flight


Two S.C. Army National Guard (SCNG) CH-47D Chinook helicopters perform individual and in-formation crew-proficiency training, Columbia and Eastover, South Carolina, Aug. 6, 2016. During the flight, the crews completed several critical tasks, such as Instrumental Flight Rules (IFR) training, crew-chief progression, Night Vision Goggles (NVG), sling load operations, and crew currency training, both in daylight and night conditions.
