Vietnam 50th Reunion


Fort Rucker will be celebrating Veterans on 12-15 May 2016. The event is being done in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam Conflict and the 50th Anniversary of the 1st Aviation Brigade. This event is for everyone! Veterans of all services, all ranks, and all time periods. Friends and family are also welcome. Army Promoting Nearly 4,000 NCOs in April


The Army is planning to promote 3,788 Regular Army NCOs to the ranks of sergeant through sergeant major on April 1, according to cutoff scores and sequence numbers issued by the Army in late March. April cutoff scores authorize 1,922 advancements to sergeant and 1,034 to staff sergeant, while the sequence numbers call for 86 advancements to sergeant major, 199 to master sergeant, and 547 to sergeant first class.  Congrats to all those who are being promoted. 40th CAB Chinooks Land Aboard the USS Ponce


CH-47 Chinook helicopters from Company B, 1st Battalion, 168th Aviation Regiment, 40th Combat Aviation Brigade, touched down aboard the USS Ponce, an Afloat Forward Staging Base, in the Persian Gulf, on March 14. The 40th CAB has been practicing landings aboard Naval vessels every month.  These amazing photos were originally found here.

New Technology May Make Cleaning Weapon Obsolete


Army engineers at Picatinny Arsenal believe they have found a way for Soldiers to never have to clean or lubricate their rifles again. They have discovered a new surface applicant which may go into production in 2018. The new material, known as durable solid lubricant (DSL), would be applied during manufacturing and coat the weapons moving parts. DSL prevents material from sticking to the weapon’s surface. Since buildup only loosely adheres to a DSL surface, any force from the other moving parts or vibrations from firing is enough to knock it loose and keep the rifle clean. To read more...

Army’s Funding Wish List: More For Aviation


The Army is hoping for additional funding, over $7.5 billion, that it could not include in its fiscal 2017 budget request. This “wish list” helps to guide Congress in considering what additional funding it might give to the services as it hashes out its appropriations.  The Army particularly wants more funding in aviation procurement and modernization, force management, and training and military construction projects, according to a draft version of the list. Apaches with Skis


The 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment, is the first Apache unit to permanently install skis on the bird. It is also the first to “cold-soak” the aircraft in temperatures as low as 20 degrees below zero for days at a time to see how the system reacts. The battalion is located in Alaska and must adapt to the environment. No other Apache unit has developed tactics, techniques and procedures for flying Apaches wiht skis or how to operate the helicopters in subzero temperatures.  To read more about the Apaches with skis, click here.

Family’s Long Journey Leads 3 Brothers to New Heights


New Jersey Army National Guard Warrant Officers Tu Bui, Daniel Bui, and Alvin Bui, became the first three brothers to graduate on the same day from the U.S. Army Initial Rotary Wing Training course to become Army Aviators. Their father, Joseph Bui, served alongside American forces during the Vietnam War as an infantryman with the South Vietnamese Army. He brought his family to the United States in 1994 in search of better opportunities for his children.
