16th CAB Welcomes Vietnam Veterans at JBLM
A group of Vietnam Veterans visited Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., on May 20, 2016. The Angry Skipper Association is a group of Vietnam-era aviators who served with Delta Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. Soldiers assigned to the 16th Combat Aviation Brigade, 7th Infantry Division were able to spend time, and talk with the Veterans. Looks like everyone had a great time. Soldiers from the 185th Aviation Brigade returned to normal operations at their home base on May 14 after a Southwest Asia deployment in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. While deployed to Kuwait, the 185th assumed command of all Army aviation assets within U.S. Army Central Command’s area of responsibility, which included subordinate commands from both active Army and National Guard elements from across the United States. A Soldier with Fort Campbell’s 101st Airborne Division died Tuesday at Fort Polk, Louisiana. The Soldier died from injuries suffered during a live-fire training exercise, according to a news release. The incident is under investigation. The Soldier, who was not identified Wednesday pending notification of family, was transported to Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital at Fort Polk, where he was later pronounced dead. The 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade command team of Chief Warrant Officer 5 Timothy Smail, Col. Jeffrey Becker, and Command Sgt. Maj. George Dove helped to facilitate training on the topic of sexual harassment and sexual assault on Hunter Army Airfield. The training was a part of “Operation Say No More,” which consisted of several different events designed to educate and raise awareness on sexual harassment and assault. Approximately three years after defense officials proposed eliminating the Kiowa helicopters from the Army’s aviation, all but two squadrons – each flying thirty helicopters – have said “goodbye” to the Kiowa. Of those that remain, half are in South Korea and the other half are at Fort Bragg. This Friday, the 1st Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment will fly all thirty of its Kiowa Warrior helicopters over Fort Bragg and Fayetteville for the last time.
