It’s been over a week since Hurricane Harvey hit Texas, and Hurricane Irma has made landfall in Florida as well as in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. And IAVA is doing all we can to help. We are sharing critical information with our veterans and their families, as well as advocating, supporting, and sending in reinforcements. August 30, 2017 Check out this video of a collaborated effort between 1-158th Aviation and 7-158th Aviation, the two units were able to perform what is currently the largest personnel evacuation mission. Over 200 elderly people who had been stranded, were evacuated from Port Arthur and brought to the Conroe Executive Airport (CXO) where 2 buses and 25 ambulances were waiting to take them to an appropriate shelter. Shane SmithJoint Force Headquarters, Pennsylvania National Guard Check out this video of Pennsylvania National Guard Soldiers with Charlie Company, 1st Attack Reconnaissance Battalion, 151st Aviation Regiment, were joined by family, friends, and other supporters during an honorary deployment ceremony for the unit at the Army Aviation Support Facility in Johnstown, Pa. August 23. More than three dozen Soldiers are deploying to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel as part of a task force that will provide aviation capabilities with AH-64 Apaches, UH-60 Black Hawks, CH-47 Chinooks, as well as medevac assets.

The governor of Texas activated the entire Texas National Guard on Monday, in response to Hurricane Harvey. Military assets from across the country, including aircraft, vehicles, and supplies, were sent to Texas. Additional National Guard units from Arizona, Florida, Louisiana, New Mexico, New York, and Oklahoma have also traveled to Texas to help individuals left in the storm’s wake. As of Monday morning, there were 16 helicopters aiding in recovery efforts, including 10 UH-60 Black Hawks, four UH-72 Lakotas and two CH-47 Chinooks, with more aircraft on the way.
