Flt. Lt. Laura Nicholson, a medical evacuation pilot, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. This is only the second time ever the Distinguished Flying Cross was awarded to a female pilot. Flt. Lt. Nicholson is a Major in the Army Air Corps. The citation from her actions reads: “Not fazed by the prospect of an immediate return into a situation she knew to be highly dangerous, Nicholson rallied her crew and made her way quickly into the area, successfully evading more incoming tracer fire.” Flt. Lt. Nicholson is a true hero.
