New Technology May Make Cleaning Weapon Obsolete

cleanArmy engineers at Picatinny Arsenal believe they have found a way for Soldiers to never have to clean or lubricate their rifles again. They have discovered a new surface applicant which may go into production in 2018. The new material, known as durable solid lubricant (DSL), would be applied during manufacturing and coat the weapons moving parts. DSL prevents material from sticking to the weapon’s surface. Since buildup only loosely adheres to a DSL surface, any force from the other moving parts or vibrations from firing is enough to knock it loose and keep the rifle clean.
