Flight With an Old Friend

70yearsThree I Corps officers with a combined 70 years of experience as Army aviators spent an afternoon wtih one of the last Kiowa Warriors still on active duty. Col. Michael Harvey, executive officer to the commanding general of I Corps, Chief Warrant Officer 5 Jim Israel, I Corps senior warrant officer, and Chief Warrant Officer 4 Rian Demery, a standardization pilot, made the short trip to the airfield to see the aircraft they had spent hours and hours behind the controls of. The helicopter they went to go see was part of 1st Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment based at Camp Humphreys. After the regiment redeploys in early 2017 the Army will retire the aircraft from its fleet, replacing it with Apaches and Blackhawks.
