Aviation, Missile Center Executive Director Addresses Workforce in Town Hall

REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (Feb. 13, 2019) – The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Aviation & Missile Center held a town hall at the Bob Jones Auditorium at Redstone Arsenal, Ala., Feb. 5 to update the workforce on recent changes.

Dr. Juanita M. Christensen, CCDC Aviation & Missile Center executive director, opened the assembly by complimenting the workforce and presenting awards to several employees for various accomplishments, including 30- and 35-year service awards.

“You all are our greatest asset,” said Christensen. “This organization is only as successful as it is because of the people who work here. You have a passion for what you do… for the soldier, and for bringing technical [and] programmatic solutions to the table.”

Christensen highlighted the Aviation & Missile Technology Consortium, an event hosted by the CCDC Aviation & Missile Center in December 2018. “[We saw] phenomenal activity and phenomenal effort … in support of the Army Futures Command and the modernization priorities that we own here,” she said.

Outreach is a top priority for the CCDC Aviation & Missile Center. The executive director discussed meeting with superintendents from several local school districts earlier this year. In collaborating with local schools, Christensen’s goals are focused on “leveraging and partnering with them [to put] in place educational agreements.”

“[We are] looking to build up our bench and making sure we have the infrastructure in place to support those things,” Christensen said.

Updates to personnel structure, successful product deliveries, and information concerning center-wide processes were also addressed.
Of particular significance to the workforce was the recent realignment of CCDC under the U.S. Army Futures Command.

The aligning of CCDC and its centers and labs under AFC is another step in the Army’s effort to transform its approach to modernization. The goal of AFC is to develop an Army with enhanced efficiency and effectiveness in delivering necessary technologies to the Warfighter to maintain the Army’s competitive advantage in every arena.

“I am excited that we’re part of Futures Command…
this is a good news story for our organization,” said Christensen.

Christensen handed over the stage to Maj. Gen. Cedric T. Wins, CCDC commanding general, so he could speak to the crowd in further depth about the realignment of CCDC to AFC.

“I’m counting on you to be on board with this [change],” Wins said. “We are all-in as one unified command, as one unified organization.”

The CCDC Aviation & Missile Center, formerly known as the Aviation & Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center (AMRDEC), is part of the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command, which conducts responsive research, development and life cycle engineering to deliver the aviation and missile capabilities the Army depends on to ensure victory on the battlefield today and tomorrow. Through collaboration across the command’s core technical competencies, CCDC leads in the discovery, development and delivery of the technology-based capabilities required to make Soldiers more lethal to win our Nation’s wars and come home safely. CCDC is a major subordinate command of the U.S. Army Futures Command.
